The majority of Canada's Tamils are members of the Tamil Tigers or supporters of the group. The Tamil Tigers are a banned terrorist group that exploits women and children to carry out suicide bombings. The FBI labels the Tigers as the most dangerous terrorist outfit.
Tamils in Canada want the Canadian government to intervene, and prevent the fall of the Tamil Tigers. So the group can re-arm and re-group. This will take Sri Lanka back into decades of civil war, and allow Tamil refugees in Canada to continue with their refugee cases and subsequent Canadian citizenship.

One interesting factor about the elections is that the government has good support among the people of minority groups and how people voted in Mawanella is a good indication. If the government forces had already taken over Kilinochchi, the polling would have been even more heavily against the UNP, JVP and other opposition groups.”
