Late Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle has said that the pledge made by President Rajapakse to wipe out terrorism will be fulfilled. The Minister was responding to a query by TNA Parliamentrarian Mavai Senadhiraja in Parliament.Search operations were carried out in the last few days. Those who are unable to consolidate their identity were taken into custody. Some queried as to why those who possessed identity cards and police certificates were arrested. But, the Minister said these had to be perused to determine whether they are genuine or fake. He emphasised that if the parliamentarians are in a position to identify the tigers and normal citizens, search operations will not be carried out. He was concerned that the United National Party had made accusations against the search operations. Those arrested are in Police custody and are also detained at Boosa. But, he recalled how youths were killed in 1987-1989 at public places. They were burnt on tyres after being killed. The UNP, which killed 60,000 youths are today making accusations against the government. Minister Fernandopulle said search operations will continue surmounting obstacles and the pledge given by the President to eliminate terrorism will be fulfilled.
